Pastor Jim – Improve Your Serve
I trust that everyone had a great first week of school! This Sunday we kick off the school year with a message titled “The Greatest Servant of All!”
One of the biggest battles we will face in our lifetime is the struggle of serving ourselves vs. serving others.
I recall as a kid hearing my dad talk about how some of the neighborhood kids around the church were vandalizing the church property. He knew they were the ones doing it, but he didn’t have any proof.
The crazy thing about this is that instead of my dad getting bitter and trying to point the blame to these guys, he actually reached out to them!
Yes, you heard me correctly – my dad reached out to these teenage boys and tried to become a servant to them. He would buy them each a coke and give them some candy and even allowed them to use the church grounds to play different games.
As a kid, I couldn’t figure this out. My dad should be angry with them and trying to get them arrested by the local police. Yet, instead my dad was choosing to love them by serving them.
Jesus said in Matthew chapter 20 that “He came not to be served, but to serve, and give his life as a ransom for many.”
This Sunday I m pretty sure that the Holy Spirit is going to challenge us in the area of serving others vs. serving ourselves!
I hope to see you this weekend, who knows, it could change your life for eternity!
